Christoph Hagel will both direct and conduct a production of Mozart´s famous opera The Magic Flute this spring. What makes this production different is that it will be taking place in the Berlin Underground. The new station Bundestag, between Kanzleramt and the Reichstag is not currently in use. This future station will provide a stage for the production of the opera unlike any other. The set will provide a backdrop for The Magic Flute, which will be portrayed as a modern urban love story. According to Hagel, the pillars and atmosphere of the subway station, along with the connection to the entire Berlin underground provides an excellent backdrop for Mozart´s fairy-tale. The opera will premiere April 26, and runs until May 25. If you want more information on how to get tickets (in German) click here.
